Woodworking DIYs For Dad

June 08, 2018

This year for Father's Day, why not dig out the scrap wood, hammer and wood stains for a custom-built woodworking DIY gift he's bound to put to good use. Ditch the traditional tie and dress shirt combo this year (really, he has plenty). With just a little dedicated time and a couple supplies, you'll be crafting wood projects that your dad can cherish for years to come.

Follow along as we show you some of our favorite DIY projects that will put a smile on Dad's face.

Reclaimed Wood Bottle Opener by Making Manzanita

bottleopener

Grab pops a cold one for being such an awesome Dad. He can kick back his feet this summer and beat the heat with this beer bottle opener. Best part of this one is that the customization possibilities are endless!

Wood Tie Rack by Craftaholics Anonymous

tierack

We know we said to ditch the ties, but this one is too good not to encourage. This DIY is beginner woodworker friendly and only requires the bare minimum of supplies from your workshop. Choose old fashioned nails for a rustic look, or go the modern man route by using a brand new box of shiny nails as tie holders.

Hanging Grill Tool Display by The Rustic Willow

grillmaster

With just a little copper hardware, some dark walnut stain, and a jar of white paint, you can give that grill master the perfect home for placing his weapons of burger production when he's not busy feeding the troops.

Quick tip: Instead of using paint, try out one of our Ultra Mark stain markers. They're easy to control and come in a variety of different colors.

Wood Burned Father's Day Card by Cherished Bliss

woodencard

Get the little ones involved with these wooden card keepsakes! Take scrap pieces of wood and let the kids go crazy writing on them with pencil. When their creative juices stop flowing, that's where you take their drawings and trace them with a wood burner. Dad gets something personalized from his kids, and you'll get memories to last you a lifetime.

Giant Jenga Yard Game by Creative Green Living

jenga

Who doesn't love a competitive game of jenga? Let Dad win or team up with your siblings against him- you decide his fate. Our favorite idea for this backyard DIY? Pick three of your favorite Solar Lux Stain colors and stain every piece a different shade.
