How To Use Brass Lacquer

June 02, 2017

Are you in need of some shine? Who needs the sun when you have our Brass Lacquer.

Our Brass Lacquer is a clear, non yellowing, and durable coating. It contains a special additive that keeps metals looking bright and clean, preserving the look of the metal longer than other cleaners. Brass Lacquer can be used on knobs, handles, hinges, and other metal fixtures throughout your home.

Unfinished brass must be polished frequently to maintain it's luster. Lacquered brass will last about ten years and does not require frequent polishing. Lacquer protects brass from oxidation.

How to Use It

Before cleaning, determine if the surface is solid brass or if it is brass plated. A magnet will stick to the steel underneath the brass plating, it will not stick to solid brass. Within four hours of cleaning ,apply the coating evenly to clean and polish the brass. Also, apply the lacquer in 2-3 thin coats, about 8 or so inches away from the fixture.

Step By Step Instructions:

  1. Remove the brass piece if it is attached to a piece of furniture, so you don't get spray on the furniture.

  2. Make sure the metal is clean. Wax Wash Remover is a great product to make sure all debris and gunk is off the product.

  3. Shake the can of Brass Lacquer for one minute to ensure that the lacquer is mixed properly and to prevent clogging.

  4. Point the spray button towards the object, holding the can 8 to 12 inches from the surface. Use long, even strokes to coat the piece.

  5. Apply several thin coats, allowing the coating to become tacky between applications. When the coating is tacky or dry you can apply your next coat in the previous manner. Generally, three coats is plenty for coating a metal piece.

After the object is coated in Brass Lacquer, the only cleaning required will be an occasional wipe down with hot, soapy water.
